Renew Your Relationship in the New Year

The start of a new year is a great time to evaluate your relationship to determine how you want to move forward. Whether your relationship has grown stale or has remained fresh, there is always room for improvement. Here are a few ways to renew your relationship for the New Year:

Out with the old

There is no way to move forward if you are constantly in reverse. Let go of old hurt and pain. If you have been harboring resentment and anger towards your mate about something that happened a while ago, now is a great time to clear the slate. Express your feelings to your partner about how you feel, forgive them and move on. It’s never too late to start over.

Nip issues in the bud

Sometimes relationships grow stale and lose harmony because of unresolved issues. If you haven’t done so already, purpose to nip issues in the bud. When something comes up, address it as soon as both partners are in the right mindset to deal with it. Never allow small things to pile up into big things.

Establish relationship goals

The beginning of the year is the ideal time to sit down with your partner to establish relationship goals. Set clear relationship goals that focus on all areas of your relationship. Write down your goals and review them regularly. Goals sometime change so be sure to add flexibility when establishing your goals.

Write a shared relationship vision

A relationship vision is different than relationship goals. A vision is about what you want your relationship to be. It is basically a relationship roadmap or blueprint. The vision has to be mutual. Once the vision is written, be sure to place it in a prominent location where it can be seen regularly by both of you.

Do new things together

It is easy to get caught in the routine rut which can strain a relationship. Some say that variety is the spice of life. Therefore, change things up a bit. Do something new that you’ve never done before. Try a dance class or how about a couples cooking lesson. The list of new things to do is endless.

Check Yourself

Many times in relationships we want to blame our beloved for the things that aren’t going well. According to Rob Base “It takes two to make a thing go right.” What role are you playing in the success or failure of your relationship and what are you willing to do about it? When you decide to change, your relationship will change with you.
